Sri Lanka is to host the ‘Four-Nation Asia Cup Tournament’ in June, the Asian Cricket Council said on Thursday.
The tournament which runs from June 15 to 25 in Dambulla, will see the hosts compete with India, Pakistan and Bangladesh in the 50-over day and night games.
The tournament, which carries prize money of 200,000 dollars, was first held in 1984 in Sharjah, Asian Cricket Council Chief Executive, Syed Ashraful Haq told reporters in Colombo.
“Funds raised from this tournament will be utilised to support and develop the game in the Asia region. We are already seeing good progress in Afghanistan and Nepal,” Haq said.
Sri Lanka are the current holders of the Asia Cup, having beaten India by 100 runs in the final of the 2008 tournament in Karachi. India and Sri Lanka have won the trophy on four occasions each, while Pakistan won it in 2000.
